His whole Scouting involvement was at 1st Great Sutton, as a Wolf Cub Scout, Scout, Venture Scout, Section Leader with Alpha Cub Scouts and finally as GSL.

He completed his Explorer Belt with John Ford, their journey taking them from Avignon to Andorra. The District Commissioner Jack Allen presented Dave with his Queen’s Scout Award as a panicle of his time as a Scout in 1970. As was customary, with boys and young men, having bathed in the culture of 1st Great Sutton and being recognised by all the Scouting qualification required he took out a warrant as Assistant Cub Scout Leader in 1976 with what became Alpha Pack. Eventually Dave became Cub Scout Leader and Group Scout Leader in an era when regulation and in particular Safety and Safeguarding were becoming more sophisticated. As an excellent administrator Dave led the Group into this time with great skill and Scouting spirit. He was instigator of the Knapdale Beaver Colony. Involved with Pete Stanley on HQ repairs etc. As Dave was a local Buildings Officer he took a pivotal role in all matters relating to ongoing development and maintenance of the Head Quarters. Fiddlestone Folk group with fellow Scouts Mal Ashman, Les Bourne and John Ford was a great passion. Dave being very musically inclined took over from Monty in the running of the Harvest Campfire and Yuletide evening. He ran most of the campfires for both the Group and for the District.
