Peter Johnson

Peter Johnson (Skip) Cub Scout Leader and our third Group Scout Leader (1975 to 1998).

With Maureen his wife Peter ran the Wednesday (Woden) Cubs as well as being our GSL and attending most Troop Camps and Pack weekends. Pete was a very keen sailor and canoeist. He made our first canoe and wooden construction and soon we had six fiberglass canoes. He coached and supported two of the Scouts in sailing a dinghy, they made it to the regional finals thus spreading the word further afield about Great Sutton Scouts. Peter is one of those people who was a driving force for the Group and kept everything ticking over and also developed the sections including the Beaver Colonies. At the many social events we all looked forward to ‘Skip’s Brew’ as Peter was a very talented ‘home brew’ maker. Like Monty he was usually behind the camera or cine camera. To date he is our longest serving GSL and his contribution, although mainly hidden from view, cannot ever be underestimated.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
