Ted Huxley (Ted/Hux)

Ted Huxley (Ted/Hux).

Our Official Group Photographer.

Ted was, as far as can be recalled, never a member of the Scout movement. However, his involvement with 1st Great Sutton and the 8th Ellesmere Port Groups should not be forgotten. He was choirmaster and organ player at St. John’s Church Great Sutton for many years. His main sources of income was photography for weddings and Scouts. Many of the early photographs we have were Ted’s. It has been very difficult to find photographs of Ted Huxley from our archives as he was always behind the camera. There was always a friendly rivalry between the 8th and ourselves and Ted used to switch between both Troops on their respective evening meetings. Both Groups trying to persuade him to photograph the Scouts, he was always even handed. He joined in some activities in the HQ particularly party time and looked on with a photographer’s eye during the meeting. As well as earning Ted a living from selling his photographs and accompanying stories mainly to the Ellesmere Port Pioneer and Liverpool Echo he did a fantastic job of publicising Scouting to the wider population. There were many photographs and articles of awards (people shaking hands) and activities (such as camps and training events). He very rarely used public transport and could be seen in the local area on his Honda 50 motorcycle.

All those ready to travel to Switzerland, insisted that Ted and his Agfa camera join the group.
